As an opinionated teenager I used to say that I liked a lot of different types of music, but not country and reggae.
The latter is still not one of my favourites, but the former is here to stay !

In the 90s I started listening to more and more country music on the TV at the Lone Star restaurant, where a friend and I had a twice weekly gig as an acoustic pop duo.
The modern type of country music I heard was really nothing more than rock 'n roll, but that was also the reason it started to appeal to me more.
Apart from that, this music was full of great guitar players!

Things became really serious when, after reading a glowing review, I bought a CD called 'Lone Soldier' by bluegrass guitarist David Grier.
I still had to get used to the music, but the acoustic guitar sounds were wonderful.

After some further research I bought a second CD: 'Bluegrass Guitar' by Dan Crary.
There was no stopping me now, and I have meanwhile built quite a collection of old and new bluegrass.

At first, I tried to play some of the fiddle tunes on the Crary CD.
After that, in a slightly overconfident mood, I attempted to play Grier's own compositions.
To be honest, I am still in that last phase.

However, what was missing was the opportunity to share my new interest with others.
That was until I heard about the bluegrass sessions in a pub called 'De Meester' in Zoeterwoude.
Here I met Rob Nijman and the rest is history.

Since September 2009 I play the guitar with EXCEPT-2.
